A multi-layer blanket for covering equipment, a firing position or a resting soldier. MOLLE webbing along the edge lets it be attached to a plate carrier, a vehicle frame or a shelter without cutting the fabric. At 150 × 250 cm it can also be worn over the shoulders like a cloak, or stretched in front of or over a position as a screen, in any season. The outer is water-repellent, hard-wearing Oxford. Tested at midday in summer heat with an AGM Sidewinder TM50-640 thermal imager, in all of its palettes — the videos are in the gallery. This is concealment, not invisibility: it lowers the thermal contrast between what it covers and the background, and its effect depends on ambient temperature, exposure time and the sensor used. How to get the most out of it: • Avoid long direct contact with heat sources — the body, equipment, engines. An air gap between the blanket and what it covers makes the concealment work better and last longer. • Give it time: brought from a warm place into the cold, the outer layer has to settle to the outside temperature first. • Break the outline: avoid straight lines and clean rectangles. • Never cover an open flame, even with a wide gap. • Fix it by the MOLLE webbing; do not cut extra holes or stretch it over sharp stakes and branches. • Keep acids, alkalis and solvents away from it, and never machine-wash it.
